The first reference book on New Zealand Rugby History is The New Zealand Rugby Football Annual 1885 by S E Sleigh (Vice President of the Dunedin Football Club).
He says in his introduction to the annual “I make many apologies in anticipation for the errors and shortcomings in this first annual. I know that patience is not a virtue common among footballers, it is conspicuous by its absence as a rule. Still I ask my friends when they meet with an error to content themselves with a mark. To those gentlemen who have furnished me with reports and information, I take this opportunity of tendering my most sincere thanks”.

All reference books containing records and statistics possibly contain errors, and this site is no exception. Please contact us if there are errors in our records. The listings can be sorted by Reference Type or Year Published.

We also thank the many historians who have published annuals, almanacks, histories and articles for their dedication in preserving the records of our great game. Some of the leading historians who have faithfully captured our history for well over 100 years include Arthur Carman, Arthur Swan, Read Masters, Rod Chester, Neville McMillan, Clive Akers, Geoff Miller, Adrian Hill, Campbell Burnes and Mike Parkinson. Also, to the many “gentlemen who have furnished me with reports and information” such as Dave McLaren, Rob Gillanders, Bob Luxford, Stephen Berg, Brent Drabble, Murray Latta, Roy Skedgwell, Cyril Delaney, and others. Thank you all.
