Sub-Union History

Wairoa Maori Rugby Board

The birth of the Wairoa Maori Rugby Board took official formation at a special meeting held 29th July 1964. A proposed draft constitution was made and successful presentations made to the Wairoa sub-union. Objectives of the board include fostering and encouraging rugby in all grades between and among Maoris in the sub-union, provide equipment and opportunities to compete for Maori trophies, encourage training, provide opportunities to witness good players in action, and raise funds to become self-supporting. The Wairoa Maori Rugby Boards colours are green and gold. The emblem on the jersey is of a kowhai which signifies growth in profusion.
