Sub-Union History

Putaruru-South Waikato Rugby Sub Union

Putaruru-South Waikato Rugby Sub Union – John Morris wrote this as “not a history of Rugby played, it is about Rugby the past and the present, also to record the work done by many a loyal administrator and their achievements”. It was “to the best of my ability the story of Rugby in Putaruru and South Waikato district.” The first three clubs registered in 1922 were Putaruru, Rovers and Tokoroa.

A privately published book based on the authors observation that “a large amount of information and the records of societies and clubs in heartland New Zealand were being lost or not recorded. Having this in mind I decided to write, to the best of my ability, the story of rugby in the Putaruru and South Waikato district.” To view a pdf of the booklet click here.
