Sub-Union History

Northern Wairoa Rugby Sub Union

Based in Dargaville, the Northern Wairoa Rugby Sub Union represents Southern, Ruawai, Dargaville, Dargaville Old Boys and Kaihu Rugby Clubs. The sub-union was formed on May 6th, 1891. In 1892 the sub-union played its first representative game, against Auckland, and lost 27-6. In 1893, they played Auckland again and drew 13-13. 1894 saw another draw, 3-3. In 1895, the sub-union made a short tour of 4 matches in 8 days. They beat Franklin 5-0, lost to Auckland 20-15, lost to Thames 10-3 and drew with Thames 5-5.
