Club History

Zingari Richmond Rugby Club

Zingari Richmond Rugby Club – The Zingari Rugby Club was established in 1878 by a group of Naval Cadets. Their home ground was the present site of Otago Boys High School. In 1887, the Zingari Club amalgamated with the Richmond Club and the Zingari-Richmond Rugby Club as we know it today was formed. The newly formed club had their headquarters at the Oval. “Zingari” is a Gipsy name and the colours are said to represent a Gipsy myth. The junior club was established by a fathers committee in 1956. The brainchild of All Black Norm Wilson.
