Wagga Wagga Waratahs Rugby Club

CLUB WEBSITE
The Wagga Wagga Waratahs Rugby Club was formally established on March 2, 1959. However, sources suggest a club with the name “Waratah’s Rugby Football Club” existed in Wagga Wagga prior to this, and the name was adopted to recall the area’s first rugby union club and the first touring team. The club’s first year of competition was successful, culminating in the 1959 First Grade Grand Final victory. Their first defeat did not occur until May 18, 1959, against archrivals Wagga City. The Wagga Waratahs have achieved multiple premierships across various grades. The First Grade premierships span many decades, including titles in: 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1977, 1981, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2023. They have also been frequent winners of the Club Championship, which recognizes consistent excellence across all grades. The club has fielded a Women’s team, with premiership victories in 1997 and more recently in 2023. The club is known for its strong tradition, camaraderie, and family-oriented ethos, providing both competitive excellence and a strong social life for its members.
