St Joseph’s Nudgee College

St. Joseph’s Nudgee College, located in Brisbane, Australia, is widely regarded as the “cradle of Queensland Rugby” and represents one of the most dominant high school rugby programs in the world.

The Powerhouse Record

Since the inception of the Great Public Schools (GPS) Association of Queensland competition in 1918, Nudgee College’s First XV has compiled an unprecedented record of success:

• 42 GPS Premierships: Winning 37 of these titles outright, far outstripping any other school in the Queensland GPS system.

• Eras of Dominance: Notable periods include absolute dominance throughout the 1920s through the 1950s, followed by the famous “drought breaker” year in 1986 that launched another multi-decade golden era extending into the 1990s, 2000s, and recent seasons.

• Ross Oval: Nudgee’s iconic main field, named after long-serving Brother Ross, is considered one of the most sacred venues in Australian schoolboy rugby.

Modern Era Elite Status
