Club History

Silverdale United Rugby Club

Silverdale United Rugby Club: The Silverdale area was originally known as Wade. The Wade Rugby Club and the Orewa Rugby Club started playing matches in 1887. “It is also possible to speculate – but not prove at this time – that as roads and transportation improved, the Orewa club merged with the Wade club sometime in the early 1900’s and that sometime after 1911 when Wade changed its name to Silverdale, the Wade Rugby Club also changed its name to the Silverdale Rugby Club. The club played in the Kaipara Rugby Sub Union. A meeting was held on 9th February 1963 at which Silverdale ‘United’ was established in order to satisfy the requirements of the Auckland Rugby Union for direct affiliation. Subsequently Silverdale United RFC was granted direct affiliation to the Auckland Rugby Union.” In 1985, the North Harbour Rugby Union was formed and Silverdale United played under the new union.
