Shirley Rugby Club: Christchurch Technical Old Boys Rugby Club was formed in 1917 and played in the Canterbury competition. Its most famous player was Dennis Young. On October 16th 1961 they were down to only 2 teams when the local High School, Shirley Boys High, approached them and suggested they change their name to Shirley and affiliate with the school.
