The Roxburgh Rugby Club, based in the Teviot Valley of Central Otago, is one of the oldest rural rugby clubs in the Otago region.

• Origins: The club was officially established in 1888.

• Local Mergers: Over its long history, Roxburgh incorporated two other early Teviot Valley sides that became defunct: Coal Creek Rugby Club and Roxburgh East Rugby Club.

2. Major Jubilees & Historical Milestones

• Centennial (1988): The club celebrated 100 years of grassroots rugby in 1988, publishing a centennial history authored by Dave Fisher.

• 125th Jubilee (2013): The club marked its 125th anniversary over Queens Birthday Weekend in June 2013.

3. Modern Revival & Championship Success

• Recession to Comeback: After struggling with player numbers and being unable to field a standalone team for about a decade, the club staged a major comeback in the late 2000s.

• Central Otago Success (2012): Initially forming a joint side with Alexandra in 2009, Roxburgh gradually rebuilt its local player base. By 2012, fielding a full side of local Teviot Valley players in sky-blue jerseys, Roxburgh won the Central Otago Senior B competition and claimed the Presidents’ Cup.
