Club History

The Renwick United Rugby Club (commonly known as Renwick Rugby Club) is a long-standing country rugby club based in Renwick, located west of Blenheim in the heart of the Marlborough wine region.

Key Historical Milestones

• Foundation (1915):

The club was established in 1915 as Renwick United Rugby Club, bringing together players from the Renwicktown township and the surrounding Wairau and Waihopai valleys.

• Provincial Alignment:

o Marlborough Rugby Union: For most of its history, Renwick competed within the Marlborough Rugby Union, regularly contesting local club championships against nearby town and country sides like Moutere, Awatere, Harlequins, and Waitohi.

o Tasman Rugby Union: Following the 2005 amalgamation of the Marlborough and Nelson Bays provincial unions, Renwick transitioned to compete under the Tasman Rugby Union banner.

• Colors & Home Ground:

Renwick plays out of the Renwick Domain / BDO Renwick Sports Centre in Renwick, traditionally wearing green and white playing kit.

Modern Community Role

Unlike many neighboring rural clubs that were forced to merge during the late 20th century, Renwick RFC maintained a strong independent identity and continues to operate as an active multi-grade club:

• Fields senior premier and division teams in Marlborough sub-union and Tasman Trophy competitions.
• Operates an extensive Junior Advisory Board (JAB) pathway for youth rugby.
• Serves as a core sporting partner within the local community sports hub in Renwick.
