Club History

Ravensbourne Rugby Club

Ravensbourne Rugby Club, established in 1887, combined with the Port Chalmers Rugby Club in 1992 to form Harbour Rugby Club. Each Club had already celebrated its centennial (1987 and 1983 respectively) and both had enjoyed senior status at various times during their existence. In ensuing years, Harbour enjoyed great success with the premiers being matched against University A in an extra time final. They have been semi-finalists 2015, 2016 and finalist 2017. Past years have seen them enter teams in the premier, senior, senior reserve, second grade, premier colts, junior colts and women’s grades. In 2018 the club received its first banner but with a twist. Harbour was leading 30-23 with minutes to go and University A managed to sneak in with time up on the clock. The game then went to extra time and after 100 minutes of rugby nothing could separate the two teams and the banner would be shared. 30-30 full time The club is fortunate to have two fine clubhouses with exceptional changing facilities. These are based at Watson Park in Port Chalmers and Moller Park in Ravensbourne. In the Club’s short existence, they have been proud to have three All Blacks and one Black Fern – Jeff Wilson, Tony Brown, Waisake Naholo and Fiona King – as members. In addition, numerous Highlanders, Otago Mitre 10 cup, NZ U20 and Otago representatives across the grades, including a considerable number of women, are members. The Club’s colours are Red, White and Blue.
