Club History

Power House Rugby Club

The Power House Rugby Club, affectionately known as Power House, has a rich history as one of the oldest established first division clubs in Victorian rugby. The club was formed in 1933, stemming from the Lord Somers Camp and Power House association, a youth organization that fostered sport and camaraderie. In 1938, Power House won its first First Grade Premiership in the Dewar Shield competition, triumphing over a formidable Footscray team.

The club’s activities were significantly impacted by World War II, with many members joining the Australian Defence Force. A training unit, C Rifle Company of the 14th Militia Battalion, was even made up entirely of Power House members. Many players made the ultimate sacrifice during the conflict. After the war, Power House rejoined the Dewar Shield competition in 1946.

Power House has won the Dewar Shield, the top-tier premiership in Victorian rugby, a total of 12 times. Notable premiership years include a triple-header victory from 2006 to 2008 and a recent win in 2024, which broke a 16-year drought.

The club is located in Albert Park, Melbourne, and is known for its strong community and diverse, inclusive culture, attracting players from all over the world.
