Club History

Orange City Rugby Club

The Orange City Rugby Club, known as the Lions, was formed in 1973 in Orange, New South Wales, Australia. The club competed in its inaugural season the following year. Its creation established one of the city’s greatest sporting rivalries with the existing Emus Rugby Club.

The Lions have a rich history of success, particularly in the Central West Rugby Union’s top competition, the Blowes Clothing Cup. The club has claimed numerous First Grade premierships, including a period of dominance in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and most recently, back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

The club’s legacy extends beyond team achievements. The Lions have produced a number of representative players, including:

David Codey and James Grant, both of whom went on to play for the Australian national team (the Wallabies).

Numerous players who have represented NSW Country.

The Orange City Rugby Club has also developed a strong presence in women’s rugby, having a women’s team that has won multiple premierships and produced representative players.
