Club History

Motukohu Rugby Club

Motukohu Rugby Club was registered in 1946, although rugby was played in the area from the late 1800’s. The Kauri Mill burnt in 1939, which saw the end of major milling in the area, and also a downturn in the playing numbers for the club. Prior to this they had produced some great players, including Arthur Pearson, whom was an All Black trialist. A resurgence saw 1950 to 1955 as the golden years of Motukohu rugby where they dominated the senior competition and produced a number of North Auckland representatives. The Motukaraka Dairy Factory closed down and the club had very bad years from 1956 to 1960, finally going into recess in 1966. The club was resurrected in 1967 and won the senior competition.
