Club History

Linton Rugby Club

Linton Rugby Club appear to have been formed in 1905 but was soon dissolved. In 1920 a team was formed again but after several successful seasons, interest in rugby began to flag so the club was disbanded. Records show that the team was revived in 1933 for at least one season. In 1947 the club was revived yet again but, losing every game over the next two seasons, was disbanded for the final time and many of the players went to the Tokomaru rugby club, playing in the Horowhenua Rugby Union.

A fine history of Linton to commemorate its centenary, there are several pages on Rugby in the area. Never a successful club, the team only played a few sporadic seasons between 1905 and 1948 before disbanding forever.
