Club History

Karamea Rugby Club

The Karamea Rugby Club was established in the second decade of the 20th century. Early matches were between Umere, Karamea and Little Wanganui. In 1922 the Karamea sub union was affiliated to the Buller Rugby Union. As with many clubs, enthusiasm waved about the time of the second world war. In 1958, the club revived with a junior team and a third-grade team. The Buller Rugby Union website states Founded 1958 (in its present form). The club wore black. The club has now joined with Ngakawau and is known as Ngakawau-Karamea.
