The Greerton-Marist Rugby Club (officially known today as the Greerton Marist Recreation & Community Sports Club) is the exact same Tauranga-based club established during the coastal population boom of the 1960s.

Chronological History
The Suburban Foundation
1961
Formed as the Greerton Rugby Football Club to service rapid population growth in the southern Tauranga corridors (Greerton, Oropi, Pyes Pa, Tauriko, and Kaimai). For its first five years, administrators focused strictly on building a massive youth pipeline, refusing to field senior teams until the junior base was secure.
First Senior Side & Morland Fox Era
1966
The club fielded its first-ever senior men’s team. They played out of Morland Fox Park, which served as the club’s physical and emotional home for its first three decades (1960–1990).
The Golden Run
1971–1973
The club captured its first Bay of Plenty premier club championship banner in 1971, repeating the feat in 1973. By 1973, the junior system exploded to 22 active teams, solidifying Greerton as a youth sporting juggernaut in the region.
The Move to Greerton Park
1991
Leaving Morland Fox Park behind, the club relocated to its current, sprawling headquarters at Greerton Park. This move allowed them to transform from a pure rugby club into a multi-sport community asset, incorporating senior netball and cricket.
The Marist Amalgamation
1990s
The hyphenated modern name was born when Greerton Rugby Football Club officially amalgamated with JMC Junior Rugby from local St Mary’s Catholic School. This merger formally aligned the club with the New Zealand Marist Rugby Federation.
The Marist Legacy Today
By adopting the Marist mantle, Greerton-Marist gained a major national footprint. Today, wearing their traditional black, gold, and emerald green hoops, the club fields a highly competitive premier squad in the Bay of Plenty premier competition.
Furthermore, the affiliation grants the club access to prestigious North Island Marist tournaments (like the Spillane Tournament) and enters their standout players into the selection pool for the annual New Zealand Marist Colts national tour.
