Club History

Christchurch Technical Old Boys Rugby Club

Christchurch Technical Old Boys Rugby Club was formed in 1917 and played in the Canterbury competition. Its most famous player was Dennis Young. On October 16th, 1961, they were down to only 2 teams when the local High School, Shirley Boys High, approached them and suggested they change their name to Shirley and affiliate with the school. The offer was too good to refuse. The image of the logo is a photo of Dennis Young, possibly wearing his Tech OB rugby jersey. The club logo can’t be found, but this image of Dennis Young is a fine replacement.
