The Bathurst Rugby Club was founded in 1874. This makes it a significant part of the history of rugby in rural NSW and an integral part of the Bathurst community. The Bulldogs have been a consistent force in the Central West Rugby Union competition, with numerous premierships to their name. Their premiership victories include titles in 1977, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1985, and several in the 1990s, 2000s, and more recently, in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The club has been a major player in the Blowes Cup, a top-tier competition within the Central West Rugby Union zone. The club is widely recognized as a strong, family-oriented club that fosters local talent and community spirit. It has been a breeding ground for rugby players who have gone on to achieve representative honors, including players who have represented the Waratahs and the Wallabies. The Bathurst Bulldogs are an important part of the Bathurst community, known for their engagement in community service and for promoting the values of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. In 2024, the club celebrated its 150th anniversary, a significant milestone that highlights its enduring legacy.
